I use my body in my work. Perhaps because it helps me to circumvent my cerebral tendencies. My concern is with the human individual and the points of contact between the human self and not-self. These are explored primarily through the body, with skin as a liminal space. I use layers of pigment and preparatory materials on wood panels, alternately adding material and sanding the surfaces. My recent paintings are sensual portraits. And they can also be viewed as still lifes, capturing the transient vehicle of the self in pigment.Swans, wings and the fields are also recurring themes in my work. If I could articulate exactly why, I probably would not need to make art.
